Talk KLSX/97.1 FM will flip to a new Top 40 format called "AMP RADIO"
at 5 p.m. Friday, CBS announced Wednesday.

Current talk show hosts Adam Carolla, the team of Frosty, Heidi &
Frank, and Tom Leykis will do their final shows live Friday, with
Leykis tossing the switch at 5 p.m. to "AMP RADIO," which will begin
with 10,000 songs in a row with limited commercial interruption "or
about 28 days of just full-on music," according to Dan Weiner, senior
vice president and market manager for CBS radio in Los Angeles.

The format, described as playing "all the hits," will also be online
at www.ampradio.com. Artists will include Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé,
Rihanna, T.I., Kanye West, Usher, Britney, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, and
Katy Perry, among others.

Running "AMP RADIO" will be Kevin Weatherly, who also programs KROQ-FM
and JACK-FM.

"Complementing the station will be an array of events and concerts, an
extensive online destination with blogs, music videos, widgets, photo
galleries, celebrity gossip reports, in-depth artist pages, an
embeddable and multifunctional streaming player, and a platform to
create artist-centric radio stations," the CBS announcement said.

While CBS' JACK and KROQ stations target male listeners, "AMP RADIO"
will target women 18-49. Competitors would be KIIS-FM, KOST-FM and
KBIG-FM (104.3MYfm).

While Carolla, Leykis, Heidi-Frosty-Frank are leaving CBS, there was
no immediate word on their future plans. A CBS spokeswoman declined to
comment on contracts other than to say "they are all different."

No word yet on who will be part of the new lineup after the first 28
days. The format has been in test mode on JACK-FM's HD2 channel.
Current KLSX Programming Director Jack Silver is leaving CBS, a
company spokeswoman said

Matt2442:
Like we need another station in town that just plays hits. 100.3 "the
Sound" is currently the best Rock station in town (Los Angeles) IMO.
They play album cuts, not just the "hits."

Jeez I did forget Jim Ladd, born jan 17 1948. Hey man sorry, belated
birthday greetings. You are my Rock teacher and friend. I wish you
well with this shake up
and you are always the #1 DJ in the world. Your books about the Doors
and Radio are great. Interviews and being on the biggest stations
playing the finest music
like a story teller and weaving a magic that only a Lyric DJ can
equal...
God Bless you Jim and Thank you for being my friend too.
Rocket Rocket and guard the writings well.

Black Oak Arkansas - "Jim Dandy"

Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Go, Jim Dandy! Go, Jim Dandy!

I was sitting on a mountain top.
30,000 feet to drop.
Tied me on a runaway horse
Uh huh, that's right, of course.
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Go, Jim Dandy! Go, Jim Dandy!

One day, I met a girl named Sue.
She was feeling kind of blue.
I'm Dandy, the kind of guy
Who can't stand to see a little girl cry.
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Go, Jim Dandy! Go, Jim Dandy!

Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Go, Jim Dandy! Gooooooo!

I was riding on a submarine
Got a message from my mermaid queen.
She was hanging on a fishing line.
Mr. Dandy didn't waste no time!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Go, Jim Dandy! Go, Jim Dandy!

Once upon a time, I went to Maine.
Got a ticket on a DC plane.
Mr. Dandy didn't need no chute!
I was high and ready to boot!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Go, Jim Dandy! Go, Jim Dandy!

Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Jim Dandy to the rescue!
Go, Jim Dandy! Go, Jim Dandy!

Lou Reed - Sweet Jane (Loaded Version)

Standing on the corner, suitcase in my hand
Jack is in his corset, Jane is her vest
And me, I'm in a rock'n'roll band
Ridin'a Stutz Bearcat, Jim
You know, those were different times
Oh, all the poets, they studied rules of verse
And those ladies, they rolled their eyes
Sweet Jane, sweet Jane, sweet Jane

I'll tell you something, that Jack, he is a banker
And Jane, she is a clerk
And both of them save their monies
And when they come home from work
Ooh, sittin' down by the fire
Oh, the radio does play
The classical music, said Jim, the `March of the Wooden Soldiers`
All you protest kids, you can hear Jack say, get ready
Sweet Jane, come on, baby
Sweet Jane, sweet Jane

Some people, they like to go out dancing
Other peoples, they have to work
Just watch me now
And there's some evil mothers
Well they're gonna tell you that everything is just dirt
You know, that women never really faint
And that villains always blink their eyes
And that, you know, children are the only ones who blush
And that life is just to die
But anyone who ever had a heart
Oh, they wouldn't turn around and break it
And anyone who's ever played a part
Oh, they wouldn't turn around and hate it

Sweet Jane, sweet Jane, sweet Jane ...

The Who - "Dr. Jimmy"

Laugh and say I'm green
I've seen things you'll never see.
Talk behind my back
But I'm off the beaten track.
I'll take on anyone
Ain't scared of a bloody nose,
Drink till I drop down
With one eye on my clothes.

What is it? I'll take it.
Who is she? I'll rape it.
Got a bet there? I'll meet it.
Getting High? You can't beat it.

Doctor Jimmy and mister Jim
When I'm pilled you don't notice him,
He only comes out when I drink my gin.

You say she's a virgin.
I'm gonna be the first in.
Her fellah's gonna kill me?
Oh F ing will he.
I'm seeing double
But don't miss me if you can.
There's gonna be trouble
When she choses her man.

What is it? I'll take it.
Who is she? I'll rape it.

Got a bet there? I'll meet it.
Getting High? You can't beat it.

Doctor Jimmy and mister Jim
When I'm pilled you don't notice him,
He only comes out when I drink my gin.

Is it me? For a moment
The stars are falling.
The heat is rising
The past is calling.

Is it me? For a moment
The stars are falling.
The heat is rising
The past is calling.

I'm going back soon
Home to get the baboon.
Who cut up my eye,
Messed up my Levis.
I'm feeling restless
Bring another score around
Maybe something stronger
Could really hold me down.

In wikipedia it says KMET got stale on the ratings side and went off
the air.
I think it was too exciting actually even for some rock fans.
I have yet to feel a sence of community with a radio program as I (we)
all felt with KMET.
It probabily was a you had to be there thing. Alot of people with alot
of time to listen
and listen we did and we were not afraid to "crank this sucker up".
Maybe those were the best times for the boomers, but those who
survived and are on the Internet are still "crankin that sucker up"

"Street, Commander Chuck: KIIS, 1983-2008. Chuck has been the pilot
for KIIS Yellow Thunder traffic helicopter for over 15 years. He got
his job by flying his helicopter past the 11th floor Hollywood studios
while Rick Dees was on the air. Sitting next to Chuck was a female
companion - a topless female companion. His reports also air on the
KTLA/Channel 5 Morning News."

The above from the web site.... Chuck Street is someone I've known for
years. I remember when he was puting in time flying helicopters to
satisfy license requirements so he could be the traffic guy. He
enjoyed it much more than what he had to put up with from management
being an on air personality. He was a really funny guy behind a
microphone.... could pick up any book, even a technical manual, and
read it with such drama and humor you'd never guess he wasn't making
it up. Twice I know of he ran out of gas in his rented helocopter and
had to set it down....once in a big concrete drain canal. Ran out of
gas, twice..... it threatened his license...... I suspected he had a
death wish but went on to his chosed career. His interview with Rick
Dees is just what I'd suspect from him. He used to moon people
through the car window riding down PCH.

Kansas - "PEOPLE OF THE SOUTH WIND"

There are some who can still remember
All the things that we used to do.
But the days of our youth were numbered
And the ones who survive it are few.
Oh, I can still see the smiling faces
When the times were so good
All in the old familiar places
I'd go back if I could ( to the)

People of the South Wind. People of
the Southern Wind.
It's the People of the Wind, I got to be there again.
It's the People of the Southern Wind

Well, it's a hard thing to face the music.
But it's something everybody has got to do.
So I hope that I can always remember
All the crazy times we had to go through.
Now it's a dream that is slowly fading.
O I don't want it to go.
All of the memories are evading
And I want you to know

People of the South Wind. People of
the Southern Wind.
It's the People of the Wind, I got to be there again.
It's the People of the Southern Wind

Now we've traveled all across the oceans
And we've seen what there is to see.
But I guess it's not the proper solution
Cause it's all about the same to me.
Now I look back and it makes me wonder
Why we just couldn't see
All of the battles we fought and won there
O wish that I could be with the

People of the Wind
you know,I want to see'em again
Yes, It's where we used to be free
O and that's the place for me.
Yes, It's just a state of mind
O a thing that's so hard to find

I remember Wolf Man on the BIG X. Also remember him on a border
station that identified itself as being in Del Rio, Texas advertising
some of the most silly things one could imagine. Clear channel into
much of North America he was the guy to keep one awake on those late
night drives during family vacations to places like Yellowstone or
Glacier National Park. I was a kid beside my father in the front seat
of the Buick station wagon listening. I have reel to reel tape I
recorded with a Webcor recorder of Wolf Man from that Del Rio
station. If I remember correctly either the studio or the
transmitter was across the border to escape FCC regulations but
identified itself as being in Del Rio. Seems to me the transmitter
had 100 thousand watts of radiated power and 50 thousand was the limit
allowed by the FCC. This was early sixties..... maybe late fifties.

I have the equipment and would like to have a listen of the tapes.
We'll make some CD's. Maybe there is some neat open mic stuff as

Do you mean the "Midnight Special" w/ Wolfman Jack? That aired after
"In Concert" back in the early 70's.

Matt2442:
I haven't listened, and probably won't given the musical direction
(Justin Timberlake and Beyonce just don't appeal to me) but I hope
they are changing the call letters to the station. KLSX was so named
because it was the first (or one of the first) "Classic Rock"
stations, that didn't just play the current hits, but treated the
whole (then 20 year) era from the sixties to the present as one big
era whose music was all fair game for airplay. How they ended up being
a talk radio station is a mystery to me. I think they started right
about the same time KMET went off the air if I recall.

There is something called "So L.A." I have been seeing it on
billboards and it reminded me of a song. I looked for it and looked
for it. It is a female singer so I looked up top 100 female rock
singers and as soon as my eyes saw her name Martha Davis
that's right, The Motels.

The Motels - So L.A.

Walked in the town with the son one night
Keep in mind the dream so nice
Walked in the night that seemed so new
All of it is up to you.
Jimmy cracked when he came out here.
Precious dream was never clear.
Oh he practiced it a thousand times.
The city should of been his that night.
And the man on the corner got somethin new
and somethin new is good for you tonight

Oh, Oh, it's so, so, L.A.

Walk with the woman that came to stay
She come and walk there every day
her specialty was you and she
dream the same but incomplete

And the man on the corner got somethin new
and somethin new is good for you tonight

Oh, Oh, it's so, so, L.A.

Walk with time as time goes on
Walk with pain as pains go long
and the dream and the woman and the time and you
Are over up to Hollywood

Cause the man on the corner got somethin new
and somethin new is good for you tonight

Oh, Oh, it's so, so
Oh, Oh, it's so, so, L.A.

Gerald, you are "so L.A."!
Here is info on the "So L.A." ad campaign:

"That's So LA"

Updated 1:18 PM PST, Mon, Jan 26, 2009

Actor Tom Hanks, Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant and reality television
actress Lauren Conrad are a few of the familiar faces appearing in a
series of new advertising spots unveiled Friday as part of the "That's
So LA" tourism campaign.

The $2 million marketing campaign will initially target 21 million
Southern California residents who travel to Los Angeles. It will then
roll out to domestic and international markets. Ads will appear in
Southern and Northern California editions of major magazines, online on
sites like Travelocity and on billboards at Los Angeles International
Airport, the Hollywood and Highland complex and Metro buses.

"During this tough period, one of the sectors taking the biggest hit is
tourism. Families are cutting back on travel. In some cities, that might
not matter too much," said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. "We don't have
the luxury of losing tourists."

Tourism in Los Angeles is a $14 billion industry, with about 26 million
annual tourists, according to LA Inc. The tourism industry employs
266,000 Angelenos, making it the second-largest employer in Los Angeles
County behind international trade.

The "That's So LA" campaign replaces the five-year-old "See My LA,"
which highlighted the favorite attractions of major celebrities.

The campaign highlights landmarks such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall,
Venice Beach, Universal Studios, the Hammer Museum and the Hollywood sign.

Information for tourists can be found at www.DiscoverLosAngeles.com.

Next song after, Rock and Roll...from the movie, "The Song Remains the
Same"
The most awesome segue in Rock music...

Led Zeppelin - "Celebration Day"

Her face is cracked from smiling
All the fears that she's been hiding
And she wonders, pretty soon, everybody's gonna know.
And her voice is sore from shouting
Cheering winners who are losing
And she worries if their days are few
And soon they'll have to go.

My my my I'm so happy
I'm gonna join the band
We gonna sing and dance in celebration
We're in the promised land.

She hears them talk of new ways
To protect the home she lives in,
Then she wonders what it's all about
When they break down the door.

Her name is Brown or White or Black,
You know her very well,
You hear her cries of mercy
As the winners toll the bell.

My my I'm so happy
I'm gonna join the band
We gonna sing and dance in celebration
We're in the promised land.

There is a train that leaves the station
Heading for your destination,
But the price you pay to nowhere has increased a dollar more.

And if you walk you're gonna get there
Tho' it takes a little longer,
And when you see it in the distance
You will wring your hands and moan

Ohh yeah hear em moan
hear em moan
hear me, me moan

AHHH YEAH it's all right.

Trader Horne - The Mutant, revisited

He is the maker that works the computer
Holding world culture in front of his eyes
Facing the ages for fear they would wither
Living their lives, just screens going by

Plastic and metal and composit material
Won't effect his body or dissuade his mind
The Earth's not like Heaven with waters of trouble
He walks on the ground and he flies in the sky

Monk in the glass house was straining his fingers
Living his lyrics for someone to see
The head of the program was linking his papers
And thinking, He's thinking he's better than me

He is but wisdom who looks on the Mellster
Thriving, surviving, contriving us free
And if in his wanderings, he passes your doorstep
Strike up your matches, there's so much to see.

Yesm - "Rhythm Of Love"

Innocence no answer
To your breaking heart
If the situation
Sometimes falls apart
Then in this ecstasy
Your charms are frozen
No emotion falling through your arms
Morning, daydream, time still growing shorter
Take me over lead me to the water
To the rhythm of love
The rhythm of love
The rhythm of love
Why should I escort you
To your secret needs
Climbing up your ladder
I keep falling down
Anyway will do
Anyone will do
When you dance to your darkest tune
Surrounded
As you crawl around the room
Night time fever burning till you're higher
Take me over lead me through the fire
The rhythm of love
To the rhythm of love
The rhythm of love
To the rhythm of love
Morning daydream midnight fever
Morning daydream midnight fever
Inhibitions keep you from your point of view
Information needing to confuse
In this situation I have found you in
to the rhythm of...
Morning daydream midnight fever
Morning daydream midnight fever
Rhythm of love
Rhythm of love
To the rhythm of love

Roger Waters "Radio Waves"

(Jim Ladd says "The Radio Waves in your head,
Ah ha is there a request out there kids?")

Radio waves. Radio waves.
He hears radio waves. Radio waves.
The atmosphere is thin and cold
The yellow sun is getting old
The ozone overflows with radio waves
AM, FM, weather and news
Our leaders had a frank exchange of views
Are you confused, radio waves.

Radio waves, radio waves
AM radio waves, FM radio waves
Radio waves, mind-numbing radio waves
Fish-stunning radio waves
Radio waves.

Magic Billy in his wheel chair
Is picking up all this stuff in the air
Billy is face to face with outer space
Messages from distant stars
The local police calling all cars, radio waves

Hear them radio waves, radio waves
Jesus saves radio, radio waves
Radio waves, AM radio waves, FM radio waves
All them radio waves

Radio waves, radio waves, he hears radio waves
Radio waves, radio waves, hopeful radio waves, dopeful radio waves
Radio waves, Russian radio waves, Prussian radio waves
Eastern radio waves, Western radio waves
Testing radio waves, one two. One two.
Radio waves. Getting through to you
More code radio waves, Tobacco road radio waves
South to Paloma radio waves, Oklahoma City radio waves
Sitting pretty radio waves, nitty-gritty radio waves
Radio waves

Inside joke for Jim...

Little Feat "Dixie Chicken"

Ive seen the bright lights of Memphis
And the Commodore Hotel
And underneath a street lamp, i met a southern belle
Oh she took me to the river, where she cast her spell
And in that southern moonlight, she sang this song so well

If youll be my Dixie chicken ill be your Tenessee lamb
And we can walk together down in Dixieland
Down in Dixieland

We made all the hotspots, my money flowed like wine
Then the low-down southern whiskey, yea, began to fog my mind
And i dont remember church bells, or the money i put down
On the white picket fence and boardwalk
On the house at the end of town
Oh but boy do i remember the strain of her refrain
And the nights we spent together
And the way she called my name

If youll be my Dixie chicken ill be your Tenessee lamb
And we can walk together down in Dixieland
Down in Dixieland

Many years since she ran away
Yes that guitar player sure could play
She always liked to sing along
She always handy with a song
But then one night at the lobby of the Commodore Hotel
I chanced to meet a bartender who said he knew her well
And as he handed me a drink he began to hum a song
And all the boys there, at the bar, began to sing along

If youll be my Dixie chicken ill be your Tenessee lamb
And we can walk together down in Dixieland
Down in Dixieland, Down in Dixieland
